Hawaii court costs guide
Filing for divorce in Hawaii costs $215 in court filing fees. This guide covers the verified filing fees for divorce, name change, general civil cases, and probate in Hawaii — every figure from the official schedule or statute named at the foot of the page.
| Hawaii at a glance | Figure |
|---|---|
| Court | Family Court |
| Divorce filing fee | $215 with no minor children: $100 filing fee + $65 indigent legal services surcharge + $50 computer surcharge. With minor children add a $50 parent-education surcharge — $265 total. |
| Name change filing fee | $50 — a Hawaii name change is not a court filing at all: the petition goes to the Lieutenant Governor under H.R.S. §574-5(c). Add a $5 administrative fee if you file online. |
| Name-change publication | Required — Required — the signed Notice of Change of Name must be published once in a newspaper of general circulation within 60 days or the petition is void (H.R.S. §574-5(d)). |
| General civil filing fee | The Hawaii Judiciary publishes components rather than a single civil total: H.R.S. §607-5 sets a $200 filing fee (Part I), a $50 administrative fee (Part II), and the $65 indigent legal services surcharge. We do not publish a summed total as verified — confirm the amount due with the clerk. |
| Probate filing fee | $100, charged once per estate (H.R.S. §607-5, Part I(14)). |
Filing fee + service + publication + certified copies is the real number. Stack all four for your state and procedure in the calculator.

How filing works in Hawaii
- Prepare the petition or complaint for the Family Court — most Hawaii courts publish the forms on their self-help pages.
- File with the clerk and pay the filing fee above. Keep the stamped copy; it is your proof of filing.
- Arrange service of process on the other party where the case requires it (divorce and general civil cases do; a name change usually does not).
- Complete any publication the rules require — for a Hawaii name change: required.
- Attend the hearing or, in uncontested matters, submit the proposed decree for the judge's signature.
